The movie was not filmed in Detroit
The premiere was held at Detroit's United Artists Theatre, a building I see every day when I go to work. To correct Spuzz... the movie was NOT filmed in Detroit, it was filmed in Michigan's upper penninsula, in particular the Copper Harbor area. The premiere was held in Detroit because there was simply no place suitable in Michigan's U.P. to hold it and the crowds it would bring in. The area it was filmed in is very scenic, and many of the places in the film still stand today.
I find this newsreel facinating to watch, especially to see the UA Theatre in it's glory days. (It's now sadly empty, and it's owner Mike Illitch who owns the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers and Detroit's Fox Theatre, seems to have no interest in letting it do anything more than rot so he can bulldoze it for yet another parking lot for his Tiger games. Sad.)

Ahh! The Price Of Fame!
Fun overview of what happens to a town when a large-scale movie premiere comes to town. In this case, Otto Prelingeráïs Anatomy Of A Murder, which was filmed in Detroit, so they get the world premiere! That rarely happens anymore.. Here, Lee Remick and Otto Preminger and some nobodys all come in by plane for the screening1 Picture opportunities! They have to go a couple of luncheons and mingle with the little people for a while and also accept keys from the city from ladies groups. Whoopeedoo. Then thereáïs a parade which hardly noone shows up for. What ARE the publicity people doing? This is not the case though at the actual premiere, where lots of people show up, like the obviously thrilled camera guy in front. Soon the premiere is underway1 Hurray1 Much excitement is had by all, except for the star of the movie, Jimmy Stewart, who wisely didnáït turn up!

Anatomy of a Murder Premier Story
This is a promotional newsreel about the premier of the movie Anatomy of a Murder. The premier took place in Detroit because the movie was shot in Michigan's upper penensula. Other than some mild historical interest about Michigan, this is pretty ordinary.
Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: *. Weirdness: *. Historical Interest: ***. Overall Rating: **.
